Take a look at a small ferrocement (sculpted cement (with sand mixture)) project in this clip. Ferrocement, is both thin (in most applications) and strong and can be used to build a variety of structures from homes, to retaining walls, gardening containers, and even water catchment containers (aka water holding tanks- especially important in arid desert regions with little/low rainfall.
