FIFA Announces Sponsorship Deal with Wanda Group

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced on Friday that football's world governing body signed a sponsorship deal with Chinese conglomerate the Wanda Group. • Infantino made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting of the organization's Executive Committee. • FIFA suffered loses of over 100 million U.S.dollars in 2015, according to a financial and governance report released on Thursday. • The wind has changed. And it is the Wanda Group. I'm very proud as the FIFA president to welcome the Wanda Group to the FIFA team, said Infantino. • The contract will grant Wanda the highest level of sponsorship rights, which includes the next four World Cups. As part of their agreement, Wanda will have rights to all FIFA competitions and corporate activities up to and including the 2030 World Cup. • When asked whether FIFA would consider changing the relevant rules so that China could bid for the right to host the World Cup in the near future, Infantino said they would have to look into the bidding process and conditions before any decision is made. • When it comes to the organization of the World Cup, the World Cup is of course the biggest event, and the whole world would like to organize the World Cup, we will have to look into the bidding process for 2026, and then onwards, and we will see how and what the conditions will be, but the more countries can bid for the World Cup, of course the better it is.
