This video explains how to interpret normal sinus rhythm, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, sinus arrhythmia, and sinus pause/arrest in a step-wise approach. The RULES of EKG interpretation are applied to an example of each of one the sinus rhythms. Causes, signs and symptoms, and interventions are discussed, when applicable. • NORMAL SINUS RHYTHM: • 1. Rate: 60-100 bpm • 2. Regularity: regular • 3. P- waves: • Upright • 1 for every QRS complex • 4. Intervals • PRI: 0.12-0.20 (3-5 boxes) • QRS: Less than 0.12 (3 boxes) • SINUS BRADYCARDIA: • (**indicates deviation from normal**) • **1. Rate: Less than 60 bpm • 2. Regularity: regular • 3. P- waves: • Upright • 1 for every QRS complex • 4. Intervals • PRI: 0.12-0.20 (3-5 boxes) • QRS: Less than 0.12 (3 boxes) • SINUS TACHYCARDIA: • (**indicates deviation from normal**) • **1. Rate: Greater than 100 bpm • 2. Regularity: regular • 3. P- waves: • Upright • 1 for every QRS complex • 4. Intervals • PRI: 0.12-0.20 (3-5 boxes) • QRS: Less than 0.12 (3 boxes) • SINUS ARRHYTHMIA: • (**indicates deviation from normal**) • 1. Rate: 60-100 bpm, although may be brady- or tachycardic • **2. Regularity: irregular • 3. P- waves: • Upright • 1 for every QRS complex • 4. Intervals • PRI: 0.12-0.20 (3-5 boxes) • QRS: Less than 0.12 (3 boxes) • For more videos about this important topic please refer to the EKG Interpretation playlist of my channel Nursing School Explained.
