Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Influenced by Mozarabic Neo-Latin dialects, Tamazight (Berber) languages, and other Maghrebi Arabic varieties, it developed into a distinctive koiné language over time. While Fus-ha Arabic remained the official language of state and religion, Andalusi Arabic became the spoken vernacular, eventually supplanting both the Berber and Romance dialects by the 13th century. • People: • The population of Al-Andalus was a diverse mix of Arab, Berber, and indigenous Iberian people. While the ruling elites were largely composed of Arab and Berber nobles, the majority of the population was initially made up of non-Muslim Iberians of Hispano-Roman, Visigothic, and Vasconic descent. Over time, many of these groups converted to Islam, adopting Arab-Islamic culture and language. Andalusi society was also home to Christian and Jewish communities, contributing to the region's cultural diversity. • Culture: • Andalusi culture was a blend of Islamic, Arab, Berber, and Iberian traditions. It was shaped by the Islamic rule of Al-Andalus, with Fus-ha Arabic serving as the language of religion and governance. Over time, Andalusi Arabic emerged as a spoken vernacular among all social classes. The culture thrived in fields such as philosophy, science, architecture, and literature, heavily influenced by both Islamic and local Iberian elements. Following the Christian Reconquista, the Muslim population in conquered territories faced significant cultural and linguistic suppression, leading to the eventual disappearance of Andalusi Arabic. • This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
