The Hochköng (High King Mountain) is the highest mountain in the Austrian state of Salzburg. For our trip we take the country roads to the municipality of Dienten at the foot of the Hochköng. The church is a famous postcard motif. Past the villages of Hinterthal and Maria Alm which is known for it's the high and pointed steeple, we reach Saalfelden. • Saalfelden is located at the foot of the Steinerne Meer on the edge of a far large basin which extends to Kaprun and encompasses the ski areas of Leogang and Zell at the lake. The town of Saalfelden is as well the starting point of the ski area Saalbach-Hinterklemm which is as well connected to Leogang. These ski areas are part of the High King Mountain Ski Area which spans 8 mountains. • The area was already settled in the Bronze Age. Today Saalfelden is primarily a college town. • A particularity of Saalfelden is the hermitage which nestles against the rock. Über Landstraßen fahren wir nach Dienten am Fuße des Hochkönigs. Die Kirche ist ein beliebtes Postkartenmotiv. • Über Hinterthal und Maria Alm, bekannt ob des hohen und spitzen Kirchturms, erreichen wir Saalfelden. • Saalfelden liegt am Fuß des markanten Steinernen Meeres, am Rand eines weit ausladenden Beckens, das sich bis Kaprun erstreckt und die Skiregionen von Leogang und Zell am See umfasst. Außerdem ist der Ort Ausgangspunkt der mit Leogang verbundenen Skiregion Saalbach – Hinterklemm. • Das Gebiet war bereits in der Bronzezeit besiedelt. Heute ist Saalfelden vor allem eine Schulstadt. • Eine Besonderheit in Saalfelden ist Österreichs einzige Einsiedelei.
