Basant is a spring festival which used to be one of Pakistan's most popular events, attracting thousands of kite flyers from all over the world to Pakistan. • But the centuries old tradition, which has Hinduism roots, injuries, incidents, has been banned since 2005 because authorities said it became too hazardous. • And now many Basant supporters are trying to push the government to legalise it again. • Kite Festival was celebrated In Pakistan but, now Govt has imposed ban on it. and here you can read history about Jashan-e-Baharan! • #KiteFlying is often known as Gudi-Bazi or Patang-bazi. Although kite flying is a popular ritual for the celebration of spring #festival known as Jashn-e-Baharaan (lit. Spring Festival) or Basant, kites are flown throughout the year. • The #Basant Kite #Festival has been a historic spring time kite flying event during the #BasantPanchami festival in the #Punjab region in India and Pakistan. • Yellow outfits are worn on Basant (Rakhi Vijan)) • It falls on Basant, also called Basant #Panchami. • According to the Punjabi calendar it is held on the fifth day of lunar month of Magha (in late January or early February) marking the start of spring. • During the #spring #festival, kite flying competitions are held across the country and the skies are colored with kites. As people cut-loose an opponents kite, shouts of 'Bo kata' ring through the air. They reclaim the kites, after they have been cut-loose, by running after them. • This is a popular ritual especially among the youth (similar to scenes depicted in the Kite Runner which is based in neighboring Afghanistan). • Kites and strings are a big business in the country and many types of strings are used: glass-coated strings, metal strings and tandi. However, kite flying was banned in #Punjab due to motorcyclist deaths caused by glass-coated or metal kite-strings. • #Kup, #Patang, #Guda, and #Nakhlaoo are some of the kites used. They vary in balance, weight and speed. • What is #Kite? • Answer: A kite is a tethered heavier-than-air craft with wing surfaces that react against the air to create lift and drag. • The finest #Chinese #kites are made from split #bamboo (usually golden bamboo), covered with silk, and hand painted. • ---- • Kite flying is popular in many #Asian countries, where it often takes the form of kitefighting , in which participants try to snag each other's kites or cut other kites down. • Fighter kites are usually small, flattened diamond-shaped kites made of paper and bamboo.
