They are arranged in two rows: the proximal row (closer to the forearm) and the distal row (closer to the hand). Starting from the lateral side (thumb side) and moving towards the medial side (pinky side), here are the carpal bones: • Proximal Row: • Scaphoid: This bone is located on the lateral side of the wrist, near the base of the thumb. It is the largest bone in the proximal row and articulates with the radius bone of the forearm. • Lunate: The lunate bone is located in the middle of the proximal row. It is crescent-shaped and articulates with the radius bone proximally. • Triquetrum: Positioned on the medial side of the wrist, the triquetrum articulates with the ulna bone of the forearm. It is pyramidal in shape. • Pisiform: The pisiform bone is a small, pea-shaped bone located on the anterior (palm) side of the wrist, articulating with the anterior surface of the triquetrum. • Distal Row: • Trapezium: The trapezium bone is located on the lateral side of the distal row, articulating with the base of the thumb metacarpal bone. It is roughly quadrilateral in shape. • Trapezoid: This bone is positioned next to the trapezium, closer to the midline. It articulates with the second metacarpal bone. • Capitate: The capitate bone is the largest carpal bone and is located in the center of the distal row. It articulates with the third metacarpal bone. • Hamate: Positioned on the medial side of the distal row, the hamate bone has a hook-like process called the hamulus. It articulates with the fourth and fifth metacarpal bones. • These carpal bones collectively contribute to the flexibility and stability of the wrist joint and provide attachment sites for ligaments and tendons. • #carpalbones #anatomy #medical #bones #mnemonics #physicaltherapy #lunate #physiotherapy #physicaltherapist #carpaltunnelsyndrome #medicallife #physiotherapist #physio #doctor #follow #rehabilitation #hand #carpal #medico #medicalpost #life #lifestyle #mbbs #medicalknowledge #carpaltunnel #upperlimb #handtherapy #studygram #motorbikeriding #wristsplint • • Thanks for watching and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, hit the LIKE button👍 and click the BELL button🔔 for future notifications!!!
