We can record (write) the steps of adding 2-digit numbers. Add the ones first. If there are 10 or more ones, we regroup 10 ones as a ten and write the remaining ones in the sum. Then we add the tens and write the sum. When we regroup 10 ones as a ten, we don't change the value of the sum. It makes it easier for us to write the sum. We review a different way to add by breaking apart tens and ones, from video 4.3. We show several examples of adding 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping.
