The main church in Verona (Italy) is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta; its bell tower has a concert of 11 bells, almost all cast in 1931 by Ettore Cavadini. The largest bell was recast in 2003 by De Poli, while the two smaller bells were added by Grassmayr of Innsbruck in 2014 and 2020. The bells are pitched in the diatonic scale of A major. In this video, the bells are rung by bellringers with strings, as is the case at all festivals. • Christianity arrived in Verona in the fourth century and immediately two cathedrals were built. The new cathedral was built in the ninth century, while the older one was completely destroyed by fire. The cathedral was rebuilt in the Romanesque style in 1120, after the terrifying earthquake of 1117 that had razed all the towns in the area to the ground. Between 1913 and 1931, the bell tower was raised, taking advantage of the huge Romanesque base. Inside the bell tower is a museum, with a still-functioning bell dating from 1384. The city is famous for the Arena di Verona and for being used by Shakespeare for the story of Romeo and Juliet. • #bells #church #catholic #catholicchurch #bell #verona #italy #concert
