The Tirpitz was a battleship of the Kriegsmarine, the second and last ship of the Bismarck class. She was named after Grand Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz, the architect of the German Imperial Navy. The ship was laid down in 1936, launched in 1939, and commissioned in February 1941.
