Define the terms pitch and least count. • Answer: • Pitch: • The ratio of unit of main scale to the number of division in a single unit. • Least count: • Least count is the magnitude of the smallest measurement that can be measured by an instrument accurately. • Least count of screw gauge = • Pitch • Total no of division on the main scale • • 2. What is the backlash error? How do you reduce it? • Answer: • Sometimes due to wear and tear of threads of screw, it is observed that on reversing the direction of rotation of the thimble, the tip of the screw does not start moving in the opposite direction at once, but it remains stationary for a part of rotation. This causes error in the observation which is called the backlash error. • To avoid the backlash error, while taking the measurements, the screw should be rotated in one direction only. If it is required to change the direction of rotation of the screw, do not change the direction of rotation at once. Move the screw still further, stop there for a while and then rotate it in the reverse direction. • • Thanks for watching • Subscribe For • more Practicals ‎@BYJU'S  ‎@Extramarks  ‎@Physics Wallah - Alakh Pandey  ‎@A2 Motivation by Arvind Arora  ‎@Science and fun  ‎@BYJU'S IAS  ‎@BYJU'S Exam Prep : Teaching  ‎@solutions made easy   ‎@CLASSMATES MEDIA  ‎@Master Vaibhav Hire  ‎@Success Tips by Kingmaker  ‎@YouTube  ‎@Instagram  ‎@Zomato  ‎@Samsung India ‎‪@AmazonInOfficial‬
