I was working with a fly-back transformer driven by a 555 timer and a D2578 horizontal TV transistor. Initially, I encountered difficulties with the circuit failing to start. After troubleshooting, I discovered that the circuit will not start if there is any residual charge on the high-voltage line. In cases of overload, the power needs to be removed, the high-voltage line shorted to the base pin, and then restarted. • An additional challenge I faced was intermittent functionality—one day the circuit worked, and the next day it didn’t. After experimenting with various adjustments, including replacing the timer, adding a small capacitor to pin 5, and changing the battery, I realized the issue stemmed from a built-in diode inside the transformer. Reversing the leads resolved the problem. • See it in action here : • 555 timerHigh voltage
