It involves lots of cell culture. I do a lot of biochemistry; transfections take up a lot of my time. I wanted to use it to transfect cells and in particular some cell lines that are quite difficult to transfect with normal reagents. • How does it compare to other systems? • I compared the Neon side-by-side with my usual transfection reagent and it actually worked comparatively well. I found the system very easy to use, it was very quick. I found that I liked the pipette system instead of the normal electroporation system where you use cuvettes. It was much easier to handle and there is no possibility of mixing your samples up. • How does it work? • I split my cell to a certain confluency and then it's very simple. You mix your cells with your DNA, take it up into the Neon pipette, place it into the device, a quick zap with the machine and its done you just put it back into your plate. • And the database? • It's really easy to use. You just go into their system, type in the cell line that your using and it tells you what confluency to use the cells at, how much DNA and also how to program the machine • Would you recommend the Neon Transfection System to others ? • I would recommend it simply because it was very easy to use, it was actually a little bit cheaper than the system we've used in the past and once again I really like the features such as the database.
