I returned to my local pond to watch the wild ducks calmly swim around in their pond. There are too many wild ducks there to count. The ducks have changed color throughout the past couple of months, wild-growing in size from ducklings to adult-sized ducks. The male ducks have a shiny green heads, while the female ducks are a light brown color. The ducks in this video eat little bits of food or insects in the water and some plants in the grass. Some of the ducks swim leisurely in the water and some swim rapidly. There is a water fountain nearby that helps to circulate the water to keep it clean. • In the summer when the male ducks get their new feathers, the green color on their heads looks very shiny and silky. The color of their heads is one of the main ways to tell what gender these mallard ducks are. • Male Mallard duck has silky green head feathers, while Female Mallard ducks have mostly brown feathers. Wild green-headed ducks are often found in ponds, wetlands, lakes, rivers, and marshy areas. • I come back to my local duck pond throughout the year to feed and observe the ducks. The ducks stay almost the entire year at the pond only leaving in the winter months until they return in the spring. When I am there all of the ducks get extremely excited and start to swim or walk over to me. When I feed these ducks, I only give them sunflower seeds or bird seeds, and it is not good to feed them bread. • -- • Bird watching is a hobby of mine.
