SOCCER SHIN GUARDS must be completely covered by the socks. • • This is more a rule about the socks, than it is the shin guard. • • Therefore, the SOCCER SHIN GUARDS GO UNDER SOCKS. • • 2. Shinguards must be large enough to protect a player. • • Generally, aim for something that is at least 6 inches long, but 8 is even safer. • • However, high school college, and pro players often try to get by with the smallest shin guards. • • This is because most players don’t make contact with other players shins when they kick. • 3. Shin guards must be made of a suitable material. • • So don’t have metal, cardboard, or aluminum. • • FIFA says to use rubber, plastic or a similar suitable material. • Generally, they should have some kind of cushion often made of foam and a hard plastic outer shell. • • Some players prefer to wear ankle protectors as well. • • However, it often affects a player’s touch, so you do not see pros with ankle protectors.
