Arma 3 1.14 version with HDD vs SSD vs Ramdisc can be found here: • [A3] Arma 3 1.14 Storage drive compar... • This is a follow up to the hard drive performance of ArmA 2 around release date. • ArmA2 hard drive performance • Since the original video I have replaced my x58+920 with a Z77+3570k and replaced my hard drives. I've also addeda 2nd GTX275 and gone back to triplehead via Nvidia Surround. The new CPU alone provided a good boost in arma 2 performance even before I overclocked it to 4.2ghz. ArmA2 has also had some very good performance patches and the stuttering has been almost completely eliminated. The only major hitch is during the fly through in part 2 at 0:22. I am also using DXTory now as there is less overhead when recording with it. • • The current retail version of ArmA 2 on steam is ArmA 2 OA is 1.62.95248 • Top: SATA WD Black 1TB (WD1001FALS) • Bottom: Intel 520 180GB (SSDSC2CW180A3) • As before, these are recorded to a dedicated recording drive. • HD Tune Benchmarks of the raw read rates of these drives can be found here: http://i.imgur.com/fjMl8.jpg and by searching google for more in depth benchmarks. • 0:00 to 2:27 is a synced at the start of every part of the mission • 2:27 to the end is a side by side showing the mission after hitting Play , this demonstrates the raw loading speed of the SSD. • The HDD took around 51 seconds just to load to Receiving, about 1 minute 7 seconds till the trucks started driving and about 3 1/2 minutes to complete the run. • The SSD took less than 15 seconds to Receiving, 20 seconds till the trucks and around 2 1/2 minutes to complete the run. Going to the HDD to record this, it felt like an eternity just to load the game and mission. I have observed similar results running Planetside2 on my SSD as far as loading times. • There is not much stutter now, at least nowhere near before. I do notice more hitches and the popping on the HDD is a bit more delayed compared to the SSD., but overall the SSD just plain screams. • I have also uploaded a video comparing the SATA WD Black, to a SATA III Hitachi to an Intel 520 SSD here: • ArmA 2 SATA vs SATAIII vs SSD • ArmA 2 settings can be found here: http://i.imgur.com/AudFGQr.jpg • Specs: • Core i5 3570k @ 4.2ghz • 16GB G.Skill DDR3@1866 10-10-10-30 • WD Black 1TB • Hitachi 1TB • Intel 520 180GB SSD • 3x Dell 1280x1024
