Alessandro Piccinini was one of the most renowned lutenists and composers in 17th century Italy. He was also a proud man, who boasted of his invention of the archlute in this very book, Intavolatura di Liuto et di Chitarrone. What makes his music remarkable as a forebear to Zamboni's is his skill with counterpoint, reminiscent of his 16th century forebears, as well as his received popularity for his ability as a performer. Listen closely for imitative passages, which move in ever tighter formations, but just so that they still leave room for the performer's embellishment and inspiration. • I. Toccata XIV: 0:00 • II. Canzone IV: 2:57 • III. Balletto in Diverse Partite: 6:44 • Support me and my work at Patreon! •   / theavantbard   • For more to contact me for professional engagements, check out my website: • https://www.theavantbard.com/ • Note regarding the recording: somewhere in the Balletto, you will notice my usual mascot finding her way into the recording. What you will often miss in my recordings is the wildly flailing arms of my beloved wife trying to entice the cat out of the picture!
