We were the first dental office in Michigan to offer PRF to our patients. Well... what is PRF? • PRF stands for Platelet Rich Fibrin. We will use it when we are doing a surgical procedure so that the area heals more rapidly and effectively. • To do this, we draw the patients blood and put it in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood rapidly and separates the blood into different sections. The white blood cells or fibrin separates from the blood plasma. These components help your tissues regenerate more quickly. We apply the PRF on the affected area (where you had your surgery). Your stem cells strengthen and develop new tissue for speedy healing. • The gel like substance is kind of like a membrane created from your own blood. This ensures that it's not a foreign body, so your body readily accepts it. We will shape the PRF or flatten the membrane to be applied to the surgical site, and then we suture the tissue overtop of the platelet rich fibrin. • PRF really enhances the healing process by adding platelets from the patients own blood to the area that is healing.
