Hello survivors! As the first chapter in my Fallout 4 Frost Permadeath series ends, a new chapter begins - this time in sunny Appalachia. During the bombing, a secret smuggling ship carrying an advanced biological experiment code-named HR-D4 sinks off the coast of Boston. In the chaos that ensues, all crew and cargo go missing. • 2082 • 5 years after the bombs dropped. Those who remain are scarred by the war. The fighting didn't end when the bombs fell. Survivors fight each other for the few remaining resources left in the Commonwealth. New factions emerge. Old-world weapons are found. Bullets have become the most reliable currency. The very air is too toxic to breathe for longer than a few minutes without protection. • At Lexington Station, a cruel taskmaster known as Al Six Nails Duval enslaves any survivors he can find and sets them to work, scavenging through the rubble for anything of value. One slave is special though. With the help of a Federation Soldier, the slave escapes, only to learn that he is to become the pawn of the so-called Metro Federation - one of the new factions that reside in the underground metro systems. The slave has escaped one master only to be imprisoned by another. During a brief rest in a basement, fighting breaks out at the nearby Bunker Hill monument. His captor is momentarily distracted, and the slave sees his chance. He kills his captor and is free. What follows is a bloody trail of death and destruction as the slave learns his true identity and destroys all who would stand against him. He is hunted by the remnants of the US Army, now working for a shadow organization - all that remains of the United States government. Though he removes their presence in the Commonwealth, more will surely come, and so he sets out for greener lands, far away. • 2102 • 25 years after the bombs dropped. For 20 years, the former slave has traveled south in search of a warmer climate. Somewhere less populated, far away from the reach of the US Army Remnants. He picks up radio broadcasts from the Appalachia region in West Virginia. A group calling themselves The Responders offers help and sanctuary to all. He is always wary though. Years of betrayal and conflict have taught him not to trust. He doesn't remember everything that happened in the Commonwealth. There's a great blank area in his memory. He remembers an island of horrors. Fixing a boat. Making his way back to the Commonwealth and finding it mostly dead. The few friendly survivors there seem to know him - and avoid him. What happened back there? Sometimes, he has dreams. Dark tunnels, ruins, screams, blood, guns, and worse... • Just before he reaches Appalachia, US Army Remnants and Enclave Scientists catch up to him. They use a special recall code to trigger paralysis, and he is once again taken captive. Fate smiles on him once again though, as desperate survivors ambush his captors in the night. During the ensuing chaos, he escapes, with only the rags on his back. He runs until he cannot run anymore, and eventually finds himself outside of Vault 76. Miraculously, the vault door opens, and a dweller emerges.
