Since we were talking about Orchids with too many keikis, here is a video about the difference between a keiki and what we call a new growth on an orchid. • ▼▼▼More info bellow!▼▼▼ • A keiki is a baby plant created by an already mature, or close to mature orchid. It is by all means a stand alone plant that will produce all the structures necessary to live on its own when detached from the mother plant, given enough time to develop. Monopodial orchids such as Phalaenopsis, Vanda, Angraecum and Sedirea can produce keikis either from the axis, or from the flower spikes (Phalaenopsis case). • Sympodial orchids produce new pseudobulbs periodical as part of their growth pattern. A pseudobulb is not a stand alone plant, but rather another structure that forms an entire plant. Separated it cannot develop normally, if at all, as it depends on the mother plant and is connected to its growth. orchids like Cattleya, Gongora, Maxillaria and Oncidiums do not produce keikis, or at least it is extremely rare to see one.
