📢 Important Update on Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program 🇨🇦 • Effective September 26, 2024, the Government of Canada is making significant changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program to prioritize Canadian workers and reduce misuse and fraud. • 🔹 Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) will no longer be processed in the Low-Wage stream for census metropolitan areas with an unemployment rate of 6% or higher. Exceptions apply to critical sectors like food security (primary agriculture, food processing, fish processing), construction, and healthcare. • 🔹 10% Cap: Employers can hire no more than 10% of their workforce through the TFW Program, down from the previous 20% limit. • 🔹 Reduced Employment Duration: The maximum employment period for Low-Wage stream workers will now be one year. • Minister Randy Boissonnault emphasizes that these measures are designed to ensure Canadian workers are given priority and to tackle misuse and fraud within the program. The government will continue to monitor the labour market and may introduce further adjustments as needed. • 🌟 Employers are encouraged to invest in local talent, including youth, newcomers, and individuals with disabilities, and to focus on upskilling current employees. • What are your thoughts on these changes?
