SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA — On Monday night the body of a missing 8-year-old girl was found inside a dumpster behind the Santa Cruz apartment building where she lived with her mother. • Madyson Middleton went missing around 4 p.m. on Sunday and was last seen on surveillance camera footage outside the Tannery Arts Center, a housing complex for artists and also functions as a space for rehearsals and performance space exhibition. • A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the murder but no further details are available since the suspect is a minor. • Laura, Madyson’s mother, said Madyson was trying out her new scooter while she waited for her playdate. The relation between the 15-year-old neighbor and her daughter is unclear. • Investigators met with Laura on Sunday and launched a search. K-9 dogs tracked her scent to a hut at Santa Cruz beach but the trail went cold. • Neighbors searched the area for Madyson all Sunday night.
