Reed Dance Ceremony in Swaziland • ►Read the blog: http://davidsbeenhere.com/category/blog/ • The reed dance is a tradition dating back to the 1940s, during which tens of thousands of unmarried women from around Swaziland gather to participate in an 8-day event at the Queen Mother’s Royal Residence. As part of the tradition, the girls cut reeds and carry them back to the Royal Residence where they are used as windbreakers for the perimeter. • The seventh day of the Reed Dance is a national holiday and is when King Mswati the Third participates. On this special day, the arena is filled with thousands of spectators who come to see the girls dancing and saluting the Queen Mother. The King's many daughters and royal princesses also participate in the reed dance ceremony and are distinguished by the crown of red feathers they wear in their hair. • His Majesty can be seen making his rounds to salute the girls as they cheer him on. Some years, the King selects a wife to join his family growing. Currently he has 15 wives. His father before him had 70. • The Reed Dance is undeniable one of Africa’s most fascinating cultural events. • ☆ Equipment Used ☆ • ↠ Main Camera - http://amzn.to/2nZLPvS • ↠ Main Lens - http://amzn.to/2nxLZ1g • ↠ Second Lens - http://amzn.to/2o06hN1 • ↠ Tripods: http://amzn.to/2oqmBKb • ↠ SD Cards: http://amzn.to/2oqsYgf • ↠ LaCie Rugged Hard Drive: https://alexa.design/2oZDTf0 • ↠ Rent Cameras and Lenses: http://bit.ly/BL-DBH • Subscribe Here! http://bit.ly/DavidsbeenhereSub • Check out my top videos! http://bit.ly/DavidsbeenhereTopVideos • Follow Me: • INSTAGRAM ► / davidsbeenhere • FACEBOOK ► / davidsbeenhere1 • TWITTER ► / davidsbeenhere • MY BLOG! ► http://davidsbeenhere.com/ • Contact Me: • +BUSINESS EMAIL ► [email protected] • SEND ME STUFF: • 5858 SW 81 ST • Miami, FL 33143 • USA • #Africa #Davidsbeenhere • About Me: • My name is David Hoffmann and for the last decade I have been traveling around the world in search of unique culture, food and history!
