Beautiful and adrenaline-pumping via ferrata on the Paganella for expert hikers. • The via ferrata, dedicated to Carlo Alberto Banal, has recently been redesigned and with the addition of a variant it has become very attractive and exciting. The Ferrata delle Aquile is an anomalous via ferrata, as it starts downhill and arrives uphill. It can only be done counterclockwise. Along the way you can enjoy the view over the Adige Valleys and the Lakes, while at the Rifugio La Roda you can enjoy a magnificent view towards the Brenta Dolomites. • ITINERARY • From Rifugio La Roda, on the Cima Paganella at an altitude of 2125 m, take the downhill path n. 602: the Path of the Eagles. You pass close to the antenna towers and then enter the pines. After a while you arrive at the Bell of Dreams and the natural rock arch called Arco di Tito. Continuing you will come to a crossroads: either continue the Path of the Eagles or go down the ferrata. The first section of the via ferrata is all downhill: we are inside the Battisti gully. Pass the Antro delle Pegore, the Traversata degli Angeli, the Conca d'Oro, the Cengia Terlago, and here we are at the first suspension bridge. After the bridge, go up to arrive at Dos de la Merenda. Here there are two options: 1. cross the other bridge as well or 2. avoid it and take the path. We are on the last stretch. Here too we can choose to continue the old route of the via ferrata or try the thrill of the new variant the Flight of the Eagle. The variant consists of two long helical staircases very exposed and anchored only at the top and bottom, therefore mobile. The most challenging section of the variant is not this, but the last piece before reaching the Throne of Aquila, that is, at the end of the via ferrata. It is the most technical and also the most exposed part of the track.
