How to Yoga Backbends from Standing

From backbend practice at the wall, to a backbend attempt from standing at the front of your mat, to standing all the way up from backbend. Finally, a couple of quick twists to relieve all that work your spine's been doing. For best effect, pause and re-watch. • Be sure to warm up first. It's so essential that the spine is good 'n loose and warmed-up before you get into backbends. Otherwise, stiffness will prevent you from taking the full form of each posture; and/or you could injure yourself. • Standing Backbends get easier over time. Just stick with it and have fun along the way. • To cheat on the drop-back: Take your legs super wide, point your toes out to the side, bend your knees a lot, and shift your weight forward. This will help you get over the fear of dropping back. Don't forget, though, to unlearn the bad habits. Eventually, you'll want your feet hips width and parallel. • Nice alignment dropping back requires not only a flexible lower back, which is more common, but also a flexible mid and upper back as well as flexible lats. All of this simply takes practice and patience. • Keep practicing! Your spine WANTS to open up for you.
