It is important to learn to skillfully seal the mask to the face of the patient without crushing it onto the face. The patient's face should be pulled up into the mask to attain the seal. The C-E method should be used to get a good seal. • If oxygen is hooked up to the bag valve mask, this will provide a high flow of oxygen to the patient. However, room air is more than adequate for using a bag valve mask effectively. The idea is that none of the rescuer's carbon dioxide emissions are being transferred directly to the patient.
