This episode of tech news discusses the ultimate future of transportation; ET3 (Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies). • More Information on ET3:http://www.et3.com/ • Topic Suggested By:    / fleminsh   • Imagine a new type of transportation infinitely better than automobiles, trains, boats, and planes. Something that can get you anywhere fast, easy, at any time that is convenient for you, has no pollution, and most of all could be free? Sounds too good to be true right, well guess what we just invented it. • What ET3 is • ET3 is an acronym for Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies • When describing this new ET3 concept; we can break it down into two different parts. The transport vehicles that passengers ride in, and the architecture or framework that these transport vehicles travel inside. • First lets describe the outer part; because that's more simple. • ET3 in very simple terms is like the tube you put things in at a bank when you use the drive through teller, in scientific terms we call this a pneumatic tube . So basically it is a long tube that has no air in it; or contains a vacuum. • Now as for how these tubes are laid out; designers plan that ET3 routes will have long tubes that go between major destinations in pairs that lead to specific transport gateways like train stations . The reason for tubes being in pairs is that the ET3 system is designed for each tube to only go one way; just like how on the free-way we have two different sides of the road, each travelling in opposite directions. • Now onto the transportation vehicle that is moving around inside the tubes. • These vehicles are capsules that can hover on electromagnetic rails; and have an electric motor to move along the rail. They have a capacity of 6 passengers at a time. For space efficiency passengers have to lay back in their seat and cannot stand. These capsules will also have screen monitors for entertainment when traveling. • --What can ET3 be used for— • The planned purpose for building ET3 is for transporting people and goods between areas with extremely high population densities. Developers stated that they are going to create ET3 in India and China first; but they hope in 10 years they can create ET3 systems connecting all major cities in America; and a high-speed ET3 system across Europe and Asia. • --Why ET3 is better— • The ET3 system is more efficient than any other of our society's current means of transportation for a variety of reasons. One being that it is a completely green solution because everything is electronically motorized which greatly reduces global pollution. Second that it is much faster than any other transportation method; the ET3 plans on having a local speed of 350mph, and an international speed of 4000mph (For reference the typical commercial jet flies between 500-600mph). Third being that ET3 is much safer; the architecture of the transport tube lines make it impossible for animals or weather to interfere with the transport capsules. Finally the last reason for ET3 being the most effective transportation method is that once it is built it is very cheap to maintain due to being fully electric powered, and architecture durability leading to a long life-span before replacements are needed. • --How much ET3 tickets would cost— • The estimated cost of tickets on the ET3 would be 1 penny per mile. Now this is such a low cost that advertisers have even considered paying for peoples tickets. For example when registering your ticket, it can ask you if you are willing to watch one or two brief commercials and if so some companies will pay for your ticket.
