I prototype a Diplexor, align and measure it, and install it into a superhet receiver. Diplexor is a bandpass/band-stop filter popularized by Joe Reisert W1JR that is used after a double Balanced Mixer to provide a 50 ohm termination to all frequencies at the mixer's IF port, and to the following amplifier stage. Maintaining a consistent load at the mixer avoids overload and Inter-Modulation Distortion (IMD) effects that these mixers are prone to when not properly terminated. • Calculator: • https://www.changpuak.ch/electronics/... • Another explanation: • http://www.seekic.com/circuit_diagram... • A QST article on a high performance receiver front end that includes a balanced tee diplexor with explanation: • 'A High-Dynamic Range MF/HF Receiver Front End' by Jacob Makhinson N6NWP, QST Feb 1993 p23. • http://archive.retro.co.za/archive/am... • Thread in GQRP Groups.io: • https://groups.io/g/gqrp/topic/756081... • IMD measurement: • http://ea4nz.cloudns.cc/imd/imd.html • Blog: • https://vk3hn.wordpress.com • Github: • https://github.com/prt459 • Disclaimer: I am not an RF design engineer and I offer this as an interesting experiment to home builders and experimenters. If you want to challenge or debate the approach, I encourage you to model, build, measure and report your findings!
