A classically trained musician as comfortable at the grand piano as he is behind a pair of decks, Lorenzo yet again manages to bring his two worlds together on “Utopia.” The four originals here show his fine compositional talent, an ear for sophisticated melodies and grounding in underground dance music’s best traditions. Rome-based artist has tapped into a rich creative well, with another EP (a collaboration with a fellow Roman Culprit, Whitesquare) and a full-length album all on deck at Culprit in 2017. • The remix comes from the close friends of the label, No Regular Play. Lorenzo and NRP share a rare (for dance music) kinship – both artists incorporate their proper musical background, a penchant for live instruments in their performances and a proud family tradition (Lorenzo’s and Greg Paulus’ of NRP fathers are/were acclaimed composers). NRP add their trademark electronic funk to the rework, giving the original a playful edge.
