Joanna visits with Dr. Nicole Gauthier, Extension Plant Pathologists for Fruit Crops, Ornamentals, and Hemp to discuss Peony leaf blotch. • Peony leaf blotch, sometimes called measles, is a fungal disease that affects peony leaves and stems. The disease is more severe on old varieties, and newer cultivars often have resistance. Symptoms include purple blotches that begin on margins of leaves and often spread to entire leaves. Initial infections occur in spring when newly emerging leaves and stems are most susceptible. Symptoms appear in June and can become more severe throughout the season. Although the disease will not kill plants, it can cause blighting and severe dieback. The fungus overwinters in fallen debris, so pruning affected tissue and destroying all clippings is important for management. • For more information contact and follow us on social media. • Warren County Cooperative Extension Service • https://www.warrencountyextension.com •   / warrencountyag   • https://warrencountyagriculture.com •   / warrencoag
