We show that any two tensors can be multiplied by an operation called outer multiplication. The resulting tensor will be a tensor whose order is the sum of the order of the two tensors. Conversely, if we have two tensors one of which has at least one contravariant component and the other has at least one covariant component, then we can contract or trace on these indices to reduce the order of the tensor by two. These operators are essentials tools in tensor calculus. • #mikethemathematician, #mikedabkowski, #profdabkowski, #tensors, #tensoranalysis
