Cyclone Batsirai displaces thousands and destroys critical crops

Cyclone Batsirai, which hit Madagascar this weekend, has killed at least 20 people, displaced 55,000 and destroyed crops that were close to being harvested. • The United Nations children’s agency, UNICEF, has warned that many of the victims are likely to be children, who make up more than 50 per cent of the country's 30 million population. • Over 3,000 homes have been destroyed, 14 bridges blocked, and 200 schools damaged.
