His very short reign saw his usurp the throne from Constantius II (Constantine the Great's son). He attempted to make some reforms, mostly economic but his main purpose was to reverse the empire's conversion to Christianity. He tried but before he could secure his position he died on campaign in Persia and he was succeeded by the Christian Jovian.
