The lecture by the director of the project Wojciech Ejsmond about the archaeological mission working at Gebelein, which is located south from Luxor. • The importance of Gebelein fluctuated during ancient Egyptian history. Even at the beginning of the Predynastic Period, Gebelein was already a prominent area. Then during the Old Kingdom it was provincial centre and agricultural domains were established there. In the First Intermediate Period, a garrison of Nubian mercenaries was installed in its northern part, while south from Gebelein Hefat was situated, which was a power centre to two nomes. • Significance of Gebelein during the following times, up to the Greco-Roman Period, is a subject of debate. During Ptolemaic times a nome capital was located at Gebelein. Numerous papyri from the area are casting light on the life of the provincial centre at the time. The last moment of significance of the area is the time when Blemmyes kings located their capital there. • Despite more than 130 year since the first official excavations were conducted there and numerous archaeological missions which were working there Gebelein is poorly known. The Gebelein Archaeological Project was established in 2013. Its aim is to survey archaeological sites in the micro-region of Gebelein and research its history. The aim of this paper is to briefly present the micro-region and results of the works of the Gebelein Archaeological Project. • The lecture took place at the roof tarace of the newly opened Thebes Hotel. • Visit www of the project: https://gebelein.wordpress.com/ • and follow it on FB: •   / gebelein
