XE3 Vs XE2 Vs XE1 Fujifilm which one is best

Comparison of the Fuji XE1, XE2, XE3 and why I didn't buy the XE4. • I borrowed the photos from an XE1 Vs XE2 blog which you can see at https://tomscameras.wordpress.com/201... • The X-E series is Fujifilm's compact left EVF line of cameras. They align with the different sensors unlike all other Fuji cameras: • XE1 = X-Trans 1 • XE2 = X-Trans 2 • XE3 = X-Trans 3 • XE4 = X-Trans 4 • The best Fuji XE camera is the XE2 in my opinion. It is the perfect little camera if you value quality craftsmanship, D pad, flash and it just fit my hands nicely. It has the best EVF of any X-E camera with a bigger eye relief than the newest two. This means when you bring it to your eye you are likely to see a clear image immediately, whereas with the XE3 it often needs moving to get a clear view. • The worst Fuji XE camera is the XE1. It has the best JPGs in my opinion, but it is slow in every way - autofocus, shutter lag, EVF lag etc.. and it only has white focus peaking for manual focusing. I was a bit unfair calling it useless in the video - if you shoot slow and/or have a strict budget then it is a perfectly capable camera and produces very pleasing JPG files. I actually thought it was a nice companion to the XTrans 4 XT3 which was very sharp and contrasty. The XE1 has smoother JPGs. • The XE3 is a bit meh - yes it has superior technology with 24mp Vs 16mp on the other two. Plus it has the excellent Acros film simulation. But now that you can get all film simulations on Capture One and Lightroom (even Nostalgic Negative), I shoot raw. I am not a fan of touchscreens, the joystick and overall feel. • The XE4 is not a consideration for me as it loses the grips on the front and rear. Plus is has the same cheaper, smaller EVF like the XE3. Plus it is losing controls and becoming more like a beginners camera. It reminds me of the Xiaomi Yi M1 M43 camera which was a big flop years ago (style over substance). Some like it as it looks like a Leica and if you use a neck strap the ergonomics won't be such an issue. But for anyone who relies on good grips, it is a no-go. • The XE4 alternative for me was a brand new 2016 X Pro 2 for $1000. Which is about what the XE4 costs after you buy the grips. The X Pro 2 is a beautiful beast and I will probably do a Vs video against my beloved XE2 when I have had it longer. • Prices for the cameras (not current): • Bought XE1 heavily used for £100 3 years ago, sold last year for £85. • Bought XE2 last year for £185, will never ever sell it. • Bought XE3 a couple of months ago for $300 brand new - which to be fair is a bargain as they were clearing out stock for the XE4. If you want a higher than 16 megapixel camera the XE3 is a great buy at this price.
