(13 Nov 1976) Shelling and bitter fighting has again emptied the streets of war-torn Beirut despite the efforts of the Arab peace-keeping force in the Lebanese capital. In recent days, the fighting has been some of the bloodiest since the current ceasefire went into effect on October the 21st. The sudden intensification of shelling came even as the powerful Syrian-dominated peacekeeping army crouched at the doorstep of Beirut, ready to move in and separate the rival factions. • The Arab League intends to provide additional troops....some reports say up to five thousand. They are expected to come from Saudi Arabia, the Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and North and South Yemen.
