Oceans are gigantic masses of open water which covers about 70% of the earth. Oceans are larger and deeper than seas. Oceans contain saltwater. There are five oceans in the world, the Pacific ocean, Atlantic ocean, the Arctic ocean, the Indian ocean and the Antarctic ocean. Due to the largeness and great depth, the oceans are inhabitable and based on marine life. Most commonly species are microscopic planktons, bacteria and shrimps. • Sea refers to a body of water which is smaller in size than the ocean. It is where the ocean meets the land and comprises of saline water. Sea is that part of the ocean that is partially surrounded by land. However, there are cases where the sea is completely landlocked, for example, The Caspian Sea. There are about 7 major seas. Marine life in seas is so robust because of its closeness to land and lesser depth than the ocean. It is considered a perfect habitat for marine life. Further, the sea’s temperature and location determine the marine life which inhabits the particular sea. •  Oceans and seas are vast bodies of water covering around 70% of the earth’s surface. •  Oceans, seas, and bays make up 96.5% of the 1.36 billion tons of global water. •  Oceans supply at least half of the world’s oxygen •  Oceans store about 50 times more carbon than the atmosphere. •  Oceans also influence the Earth’s climate through a constant transfer of heat from the Equator towards the poles.
