if we consider a statue according to its shape, it can be either free-standing or a relief. • A free-standing statue is, as the name itself implies, a statue that is surrounded by free space on all sides and supports its own structure. It is usually placed on a base (like a pedestal or a plinth, for instance) . • In a relief, the shape is still physically connected to its support. It is classified according to the degree of image projection.
