In this Tropics Update, a huge Saharan dust plume is headed to the Caribbean and U.S. The dust is entering the Caribbean to end July and could move into the U.S. post Independence Day. • The dust concentration has been uncharacteristically low to start hurricane season which is part of the reason why we had two rare storms, Bret and Cindy, develop in the Atlantic's main development region. • Chapters: • 00:00: Intro • 00:55: Saharan Dust Coming To U.S. Caribbean • 03:12: Tropics Update • 05:56: Hurricane Season So Far • The dust being more prolific will help to keep the central Atlantic quiet for the near-future. • The Saharan dust can be both good and bad. It fertilizes the Amazon rain forest and produces vibrant sunrises and sunsets. The Saharan Air Layer as it's known can also help suppress tropical development. • On the flip side, if thick enough, the dust can cause air quality issues. Typically the particles are thousands of feet in the air, however. • The dust can also fuel red tide and other algal blooms. • The National Hurricane Center continues to watch an area of disturbed weather near Bermuda. It currently has a low chance for development over the next two and seven days. • More on Saharan Dust: • https://www.clickorlando.com/weather/... • Subscribe to @just_weather • https://www.youtube.com/@just_weather... • Follow on twitter: @JonathanKegges
