Welcome to the Ace Pilot Academy, where we take the mystery out of flying. Today's session will delve into the topic of cowl flaps and how important it is for them to control engine temperature in multi-engine aircraft with air-cooled engines. • • The interesting contraption known as cowl flaps gives #pilots the ability to regulate the airflow surrounding the engine, therefore affecting its temperature. These shutter-like mechanisms, which are located around the engine cowling, are operated by a lever in the cockpit. They function as follows: • Cowl flaps can be closed to restrict the passage of hot air ejected from the engine and raise the temperature when it is running low. On the other hand, #cowl flaps can be opened to let more air pass through the system and lower the engine #temperature when it is too high. It is essential for #lifespan and best performance to keep the #engine operating within its specified temperature range. • • An engine operating at a temperature above its design limitations may have several problems, such as increased oil consumption, power loss, and even detonation. In addition, it might cause serious, long-term harm such as valve #warping and burning, cylinder wall scoring, and damage to the piston and rings. • During high-power, low air-speed settings like takeoff and ascent, cowl flaps are very important. When the cowl flaps are closed, their position has a big effect on how well the airplane performs. Cowl flaps that are closed improve performance and those that are open increase drag. Cowl flaps are therefore usually closed during voyages to maximize efficiency. • • Keeping the cowl flaps open can reduce the minimum controllable airspeed, or VMC (V-Speed), in an emergency circumstance where one engine fails while the aircraft is in flight. Unless specifically instructed by the AFM (Aircraft Flight Manual), a lower VMC is beneficial since it allows the pilot to maintain control at the slowest feasible speed. • For detailed instructions on how to operate the cowl flaps and to guarantee safe and effective flight, pilots must consult the aircraft's AFM and PO (Pilot's Operating Handbook). • Come learn about the aviation industry and get the knowledge required to become a proficient pilot at the Ace Pilot Academy. • • ✔ Do Follow us on: • 🔸 Facebook:   / acepilotacademy   • 🔸 Twitter:   / acepilotacademy   • 🔸 LinkedIn:   / ace-pilot-academy   • 🔸 Instagram:   / acepilot_academy   • ==================================== • 👇 Don't Forget To Subscribe 👇 • https://www.youtube.com/@acepilotacad...
