The Mystery of the Borneo River Shark

Below the saltwater crocodile infested surface of the Kinabatangan river in Borneo is a mystery, a freshwater shark. While some sharks, like the bull shark will enter and even live in freshwater for some time, a few sharks in the genus Glyphis have taken up permanent residence in freshwater, and the bornean river shark is one of those, a shark known from only a handful of specimens pulled from these murky waters. Genetic analysis of these specimens show they are very closely related to the Ganges river shark from India, which is also only known from freshwater, like the sharks here, but they are so closely related they are probably the same species.
