Join me tomorrow as I deliver Part Three of the Six Sermon/Bible Study Facebook live from 9:30-10:30 AM eastern September 21, 2024, titled: Doctrine, not of Men but of God. Christian doctrine refers to the specific teachings of the Bible, including the “doctrine” of Christ, the “doctrine” of the Holy Spirit, and the “doctrine” of the Trinity. Jesus told the Pharisees that HIS doctrine came from God the Father. We should note because the early church taught the doctrines of Jesus, those doctrines were causing many people to believe in HIM, as the Savior. This of course angered the religious and political leaders (sound familiar) to command the apostles not to teach the doctrine of Christ to anyone. Of course, when apostle Paul traveled to Athens the people there wanted to hear him teach the doctrine of Jesus. Paul later wrote to the Christians Rome about the importance of following the teaching, or doctrines, that Jesus had taught, and Paul had given them. In fact, we find in the writings of the apostle Paul and the apostle John the correct doctrine from Jesus. Why? Because Jesus told the religious leaders that the source of all error was their lack of understanding the doctrines, or teachings, that God had revealed in His Word. • We must also understand the difference between theology, which refers to the study of God. And doctrine refers to the specific teachings about God that are found in a study of theology such as the “doctrine” of salvation or the “doctrine” of headship, marriage etc. Obviously, many of the things taught in churches today would not survive when tested against the Doctrine of Jesus Christ such as abortion, same sex marriage, Pastors being motivational speakers for profit, secular “Gospel” music, and many including politicians freely identifying as Christians when they do not follow the required doctrine of Jesus. We of course know the word, “theology” is not found in the Bible, but there are over forty New Testament references to Christian doctrine, or Christian teaching. Christian doctrine consists of the teachings of Jesus Christ, as found in the four gospels, as well as the teachings about Jesus Christ, which are found in the remainder of the New Testament. Jesus' doctrine or teachings had divine authority. “When Jesus finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed by his teaching (doctrine), because he taught them like one who had authority, not like their experts in the law. Matthew 7:28-2. Jesus consistently taught his doctrine, or teaching, comes from the One who sent Him - God the Father. This is a constant in his teachings of Jesus—His doctrine is from heaven above. So now you should ask yourself does your church solely teach the doctrines that come from the Father, or from man? In Acts 2:42 we read the early church devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles. This teaching centered on what Jesus said and what He did. In the Book of Acts, we read: “ They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching [doctrine] and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. he first Christians were constantly studying, as well as putting into practice, the teachings of the Lord Jesus. Because of this the Apostles Were Ordered by the Religious Authorities Not to Teach Jesus’ Doctrine. Acts 5:27-28 • The apostles were ordered to stop teachings of Jesus, they would not stop; neither could they stop. They had to tell others what they knew to be true. Why? Because it was only the Doctrine of the Lord that allowed folks to believe, in HIM, not the choir or the singing, not the cushy sanctuary, not the musicians, not emotional performances some call preaching. Acts 13:12The doctrine, or teaching, of Jesus sets people free from sin. Therefore, correct doctrine should lead believers into holy living. If this does not happen, then something is wrong. Notice how many so-called Christians have a doctrine that allows them not only accept sin but continue to live in sin. Many only have a self created doctrine of love that accepts sin. Paul explains why: I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching [doctrine], but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings. 2 Timothy 4:1-3. So did John writing John: Everyone who goes on ahead and does not remain in the teaching [doctrine] of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in this teaching [doctrine] has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9. It is instructive to read that Jesus said the source of all ERROR is wrong doctrine. Matthew 22:29. This is why so many Christians are confused. Have your Bibles and concordance ready. Be prepared to receive the DOCTRINE OF JESUS CHRIST.
