How to weld train rails to mild steel using 8018. I will show you the procedure that we used to avoid cracking and get the best results possible. This is my first time doing this and thought it would be neat to share. • We are welding these on a warm summer day in august so the preheat went fairly fast. If it I cold out it will take longer. We had five weld blankets we were cycling between our welds. The more weld blankets the better.
