Mastigomycotina is a subdivision of Eumycota(true fungi) under G.C. Ainsworth’s system of • classification. The members are commonly known as zoosporic fungi because of motile flagellated spores in their life cycle. Approximately 75000 known species have been reported. These are found in a variety of habitats such as Aquatic habitat; fresh water or marine, • Inhabit the soil,Live either saprophyte on plant/animal debris or parasite on algae, fungi and plants .A few are responsible for destructive diseases in plants/crops. The subdivision has been further divided into three classes based on type of flagellum, position of flagellum and number of flagellum attached. 1. Chytridiomycets 2.Hypochytridiomycetes 3. Oomycetes • The fungi among mastigomycotina are economically important. Chytrids cause wart disease of potato, wart diseases in roots of crucifers, crown wart of alfalfa, brown spot of maize,Oomycetes responsible for late blight of potato, downy mildew, damping off, fruit rot(Pythium species) , foot rot (Pythium species) , white rust (Albugo), Few have been reported as biocontrol agents,Hypochytrids form an important group in marine or fresh water biodiversity. • • #Zoosporic • #Fungi • #Mastigomycotina • #DrHadiBux • #InsSciAcademy
