Islamic center controversy. Dearborn Imam under fire over finances. • (WXYZ) Dearborn, Mich. - The Islamic Center of America in Dearborn is a spiritual place. But of late, it has become toxic to some, as questions loom over the handling of money. • Particularly by Imam Hassan Al-Qazwini. • Some board members have publicly accused the Imam of mishandling the books. • Something he denies. During a recent sermon, he reportedly threatened to resign, but didn't, claiming a ground swell of support. • When we visited the center today. the Imam was nowhere to be found, and the administrator told us they had no official comment, but described the situation as a mess . • Imam Mohammed Elahi is a former Imam at the center. • There have been some disagreements...that must be resolved through dialog, faithfully and respectfully, he told Action News in a statement. The goal should be reconciliation or a peaceful end. He continued, As far as I know, the majority of the board and the congregation appreciate the services of Imam Qazwini.
