The first step to acing the SAT Essay is to understand the format. First off, while the essay is optional, most colleges will require or recommend it, so you should strongly consider taking it. In the essay, which is 50 minutes long and the last section of the exam, you will read a passage and argue for how the passage persuades the audience.
