Typically, the form is made available in October, and students fill it out for the following academic year. However, the form for the 2024-2025 cycle was also delayed to December last year, as the department worked to update its technology – per a congressional mandate. In the process, families’ incomes were not adjusted for inflation, which caused a $1.8 billion deficit in available aid. • The latest FAFSA issue is straining financial aid offices and could delay payments for some students. • After a year riddled with federal student aid issues and delays, some students will have to wait even longer to get financial help. • Colleges and career schools use the FAFSA form to determine how much financial aid you're eligible to receive, which could include grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans. • You must apply for aid every year, but with the right information in hand, it's easy.
