Sometimes I think about what it would have looked like in the moat though 🤔 • Randy Bright got a lot of his ideas while he was stuck in traffic in L.A. He’d often think up all kinds of things on his way home from work in Glendale, and the next morning he’d come in with 50 new ideas to go over with the team. As Kevin Rafferty put it, “[Randy] would call me into his office and say, ‘You know, I was thinking about this idea for a show that may be Mickey Mouse is fighting the forces of evil and maleficent comes up in the remote in front of sleeping beauty castle.’ And so we’d start talking about it, and that was kind of the beginnings of Fantasmic!” • Randy was also the one that came up with the idea for Typhoon Lagoon. As he was brainstorming the idea with Kevin, he said, “What if a typhoon swept in and turned a resort town upside down? Everything is topsy-turvy after the storm leaves and it’s all fun and funny. You know, what if the storm had a sense of humor? What are those things, those quick-read, visual gags things the storm left behind?” • Randy eventually became executive producer of Disneyland and Walt Disney World parks, but unfortunately he passed away in a bicycling accident in 1990. He was honored post-humously, however, in 2005 by becoming a Disney legend. • “The summer of 1959 was a very special one for me. As a college undergraduate, I had enlisted in the Navy – the Disneyland Navy – and was scheduled for active duty aboard the sailing ship Columbia, the newest vessel to ply frontier, land rivers of America.” - Randy Bright • Thank you, Randy, for all your radical thinking.
