AI PORTRAIT PRIZE • One of Brisbane's most distinguished art contests is open for entries once again, but this year, one new change to the rules has sparked a bit of a debate. Is art generated by artificial intelligence even art? Well, that's the question a lot of people have been asking after the Brisbane Portrait Prize announced that going forward artists can submit AI generated art to the contest. It's not the first time AI and art contests have crossed paths. Last year this photograph won the Sony World Photography Award and immediately after the artist revealed it was AI-generated! So what calls for the rule change? Well, the organisers say that as our world evolves they want their contest to evolve as well. But artists, and previous winners of the contest are a bit split. Some say acknowledging AI art is important while others think it goes against the contest's own rules. And some say it raises ethical questions too. Like is the artist really the creator, because they came up with the idea and aspects of the artwork? Or could the AI be the owner? Or, is it those responsible for the thousands of images the AI was trained on? For the moment, entrants to the prize will need to be upfront about whether they have used AI in their artwork and explain how they've used it. So I think it's safe to say scam artists shouldn't get their hopes up. • LEWIS HAMILTON • Formula One driver, Lewis Hamilton, is joining Ferrari. He'll be leaving Mercedes at the end of the year to race for Ferrari in 2025 as part of a multi year deal. Hamilton has won six of his seven F1 drivers' championships with Mercedes and is the sport's all-time leader in race wins, podiums and pole positions • POKEMON CHAMPS • Now to Melbourne, where budding Pokemon trainers are testing their skills in a series of tournaments. What do you wanna be when you grow up? Well, for 11-year-old Kiara, that goal is clear. And she is not alone. The video game franchise which has been going since 1996 is huge, and today, hundreds of eager competitors are gathering in Melbourne for the next leg of the Pokemon Regional Championships. Across the next three days at this event, there's thousands of dollars up for grabs as well as the chance to play at the world's biggest Pokemon event! The Pokemon International Championships. So yeah, the stakes are pretty high. But for Pokemon trainers like Kiara, it's also a great way to make friends. Last year, she won the junior division! And she's got her sights set on being the very best. • KID STUCK IN CLAW MACHINE • Now if you've ever looked at a claw machine and thought: wow it looks so fun inside. I wish I could just crawl inside. Boy have I got a story for you. Yep! This kid's beaten us all to it. 3 year old Ethan was with his parents one moment and inside this claw machine outside a Brisbane supermarket the next. He managed to weasel his way up the dispensing shoot and into the land of Hello Kitty plush toys. Except, everyone soon realised he couldn't get out. Cops were called in to hatch a plan. And with the help of a hammer, Ethan was set free! In the end, Ethan did get a toy. And more importantly a story to tell. • __________________________________________ • Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/behindthenews... • TikTok:   / behindthenewstv   • Facebook:   / abcbtn   • Instagram:   / behindthenews   • For the past 55 years, Behind the News has been helping to break down current issues and events for young people all around the world.
