For today's tasting our Wine Director David Allen MW tastes a typical sweet style of fortified Muscat of Alexandria (Hanepoort) from South Africa. The style known as Jerepigo (or Jeripiko) is what the French would call a mistella. The wine in question is Kaapzicht Estate's Hanepoot Jerepigo 2021. He explains how thios is made and tastes the wine. • Owned by the Steytler family for four generations, Kaapzicht is a family-owned and run wine estate in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. The name Kaapzicht (Cape View) comes from the fantastic view from the Farm in Bottelay over Table Mountain and Cape Town - this view is depicted on the estate's label. • Bought originally in 1946 by Major David Steyler on his return to South Africa having fought in the Second World War. Today the Steytlers have some of the Cape's oldest Chenin Blanc vines in the form of a plot planted in 1947. They were also early adopters of the Pinotage variety. In 1984 they took the bold step of withdrawing their wines from sale via the Stellenbosh Farmer's Winery - preferring to market the wines under their own label. • As always find the wine and more information about this wine, its pricing and availability by following the link below to the Wine-Searcher website: https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/ka... • #hanepoort #muscat #southafricanwine #winesearcher #kaapzicht #masterofwine #winelovers #stellenbosh #winetasting #sweetwine #muscatofalexandria #tastingsweetwine #jerepigo #jerepiko #mistella
